Mary Elizabeth (Hardin) Cox, 95, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away October 24, 2024 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehab. She was born on November 15, 1928 in Mt. Vernon, IN to the late Alonzo and Opal (Smith) Hardin.
Mary worked as a housekeeper at the 4 Seasons Hotel and later at residents' homes. She was also a crossing guard for West Elementary for a few years. Mary was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary unit #5 and a past member of the Moose Lodge #497 and Mt. Vernon Eagles #4362. She enjoyed playing bingo, bird watching, and tending to her flower bed and violets. Mary loved her children and family dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny Cox; her son, Harry Gross; and 12 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Wanda Topper (Dennis), Penny Cullman (Dennis), Annette Boberg, Lana Robb, and Roxanne Payne; son, Dennis Gross (Dee); 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 28, 2024 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN with Rev. Dallas Robinson officiating and burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, stjude.org, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
