Mary Culliton Obituary

Culliton, Mary Murnane
TROY - It brings great sadness to announce the passing of Mary Murnane Culliton, age 74, of Troy, N.Y., on Oct. 24, 2024, after a year-long battle with cancer. Mary entered into eternal life from the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late John (Socks) Murnane and Marion Poulin Murnane. She is survived by her significant other, Joe Merola. Mary proudly resided in Troy all her life. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School and earned an Associates degree from Hudson Valley Community College.
Mary was a mail carrier for the Troy Post Office for 25 years. Early on, delivering mail in the village of Green Island and in later years returned to her roots on the East Side of Troy where she delivered not only the mail, but often lent a listening ear, friendly smile, or a heartfelt favor to her neighbors on her route.
In her younger years, Mary was a fitness guru before fitness was cool and could often be seen out for a run in the early morning hours. She became an avid golfer and Frear Park enthusiast (always with her eye on a rule book) and member of the Trojan Ski Club. Mary thoroughly enjoyed vacations in Cape Cod with her family and cheering on her grandchildren at a sporting event, school play, or concert. Sunday dinners around the dining room table where all were welcome will be one of the many treasures she leaves us with.
Survivors include her daughter, Sarah (Paul Wells) Ragone, Castleton On Hudson; a son, Zachary (Emily) Culliton, Irondequoit, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Michael, Mario and Reese Ragone and Maggie and Jane Culliton; her stepchildren, Dean Merola and Deb Krill; her step-grandchildren, Sophia and Thomas Krill; her siblings, Ann (Joe) Haskin, John (Karen) Murnane, Peggy (John) Brandano and Michael (Annette) Murnane; a sister-in-law, Carol Murnane; a brother-in-law, Gary Grimm and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Murnane Grimm; and a brother, Shin Murnane.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 4-7 p.m.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 475 Pawling Avenue, Troy, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Yanas, Pastor.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mary Culliton to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, Md. 21741. We recommend using the brycefuneralhome.com website to share or send condolences, light a candle, view videos or for service directions.

You will be greatly missed. Always looked forward to seeing you on Wednesdays after golf, complaining on how we played and sharing laughs on the horrible haircuts Joe gave me as a kid.

To the Murnane Family,
Mary had the combination of softness and toughness in her soulful personality. She listened to you intently and made you feel like the most important person in the room.
She adored her siblings, was super protective and lived her life to the fullest.
So she left it all out there, on her mail runs, golf course, ski mountains and friends and family get togethers.
Great things come from small packages and Mary was a gift who lifted all our lives in such a fun positive way.
Her rosy cheeks and smile will live on in all our hearts....

Mary and my sister Teresa were best friends all through school. They defied all authority and beat a drum to their own path, Mary always with a laugh and that grin. If Teresa were still with us, she´d be sending her love and condolences to all the Murnanes. Hope these two find each other in heaven. With love, Anne & Vince Sheeran

Mary became family to us when our daughter, Emily, married her son, Zac. She very quickly became our friend. Her easygoing nature and sense of humor made her a joy to be around. Missing her now through tears, but we´ll remember her forever with a smile. Love, Sue and Ed Holden
