Mary (Newsome) DiCola, 93, of Strongsville, passed away October 23, 2024. She was born in Warren, Ohio, the seventh of 7 children to Ann (Gorman) and Roy Newsome.
She attended and graduated Warren J. Harding High School. After a brief period at Kent State University, she met and married the love of her life, Thomas DiCola. She and Tom married in 1954 and had nine children, raising their family at first in Warren and then moving to Parkman, Ohio.
Mary was active in the PTA, an active member of St. Edward parish, and Troup Leader for the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls. Mary took special care with Christmas celebrations, including a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, a cherished Newsome tradition that she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
A few years after Tom's death, Mary moved to Medina where she was active in the St. Francis Xavier parish and many other social groups. She moved to Strongsville in 2012.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom Sr.; her sons, Thomas (Linda) and infant son, Joseph; and her siblings, Roy (Nancy), Thomas, Richard (Alice) Ann (Harold), Leo, and Robert (Emma Lou).
Mary is survived by her daughters, Sr. Nancy DiCola, Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown, Mary Katherine (Allan) Milewski, Rebecca (David) Najewicz, Alice DiCola, Bonnie DiCola; her sons, Robert (Deborah) DiCola and David (Linda) DiCola; her 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be no visitation by Mary's request. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina, OH 44256. Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, Ohio where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Tom.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Francis Xavier Parish in her memory at the address above.
