Mary Catherine Dillander, a devoted matriarch and cherished member of the Louisville community, passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on April 15, 1944, in Louisville, KY, Mary was known for her loving spirit, boundless kindness, and innate ability to bring joy to those around her.
After dedicating 21 years of her life to the Episcopal Church Home, Mary retired to enjoy the fruits of her labor, having been loved by both the residents and her co-workers alike. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her career; she was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. With a kind heart, she never met a stranger and formed connections with everyone she encountered.
Mary was fiercely independent and took great pride in caring for her family, exemplifying the true meaning of a matriarch. She shared her joyful zest for life through passions that included being a lifetime member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary Post 6182, enjoying visits to casinos and bingo halls, and traveling with her beloved sisters. Proudly cheering on the University of Louisville Cardinals and reveling in the excitement of the Derby were favorite pastimes that added vibrancy to her life.
Mary leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her son Scott (Lisa) Dillander; grandchildren Bradley Witt, Tiffany (Robert) Doolin, Daniel Dillander II, Zachary (Kayla) Dillander, and Victoria Dillander; as well as great-grandchildren Georgia, Megan, Laney, Kaylee, Aria, Ryker, and Greyson. She is also survived by her dear sister Patricia Demaree, her adoring great nephew, Leelind, affectionately known as her "LeeLee" and several nieces and nephews that will miss her dearly.
Mary has been reunited in peace with her beloved family members: Donald J. Heath; her daughter Betty Jean "BJ"; her grandson Cory Michael; her parents Thomas and Betty Ungles; and her siblings Thomas Ungles Jr., Peggy Paige, Julia Price, and Brenda Brown.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the extraordinary life of Mary Catherine Dillander at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 12th , from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service on Thursday, November 13th starting at 11:30 AM . She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
Mary's legacy of love, kindness, and independence will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever shine in the hearts of her family and friends.
