Mary Driscoll Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 14, 2025.
Mary Katherine Driscoll, nee Meyer, died peacefully in her sleep at home in Westlake, OH October 11, 2025 surrounded by family. Born in Chicago August 15, 1936, she was the eldest daughter of Winifred Duffy Meyer and Theodore Meyer and raised in Glenview, IL. Educated in the Catholic faith, she had a strong commitment to the Blessed Virgin, and her most impactful years were spent at the Academy of the Sacred Heart (now Woodlands Academy) and Barat College in Lake Forest, IL. She graduated in 1958 with a degree in education and taught for two years.
During college she met and fell in love with James Francis Driscoll of Flossmoor, IL. They married in 1959 and had four children before they moved to Youngstown, OH where they had two more, and eventually 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Jim (Hilary) -- Jim, Danielle of Littleton, CO, Culeen Carey (Fran) – Meredith, Caileigh, Shane and Catherine -- of Lakewood, OH, Julie (Doug) of Burr Ridge, IL – Turner, Carson and Scott, Patrick (Brenda) -- Katelyn, Lauren and Haley -- of Littleton, CO, Duffy (Molly) – Jack, Claire and Bridget -- of New Albany, OH and Megan McGrath (Brendan Murphy) -- Ciara and Tadgh -- of Rush, Ireland.
In Youngstown, Mary Kay and Jim took advantage of the richness of the area, getting involved with The Butler Museum of American Art, the Youngstown Symphony, St. Edwards Catholic Church, Ursuline High School and Villa Maria High School, the Northside neighborhood council, and exploring areas nearby. Mary was an active member of the Junior League of Youngstown. She enjoyed travel from a young age taking a bus from Glenview to Mexico City in 1952 to visit a friend when she was 16. She and Jim visited many states and countries beginning with a honeymoon in Ireland.
Mary Kay is survived by her sister Winifred of Lakewood, CO, and predeceased by her parents, Theodore and Winifred Meyer, her siblings: Ted, Julie and Gretchen, and her in laws Anne and James F. Driscoll.
Many thanks to the nurses of Hospice of the Western Reserve and friends and staff at The Concord Reserve.
A funeral mass will take place October 20 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Bay Village, OH beginning with a visitation at 10 a.m., followed by mass at 11 a.m. The Mass will be live-streamed at http://tiny.cc/mdriscoll
She and Jim will be interred at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Evanston, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Beatitude House, or the Butler Museum of American Art.

Mary K and Jim were great neighbors and fellow daily mass attendees at Holy Family. Always so kind, cheerful and welcoming. We greatly missed Mary K when she moved to Westlake to be closer to family. Mary K so strong in her Catholic faith and a wonderful example for our young family. May God comfort your family and Jim greet her!
