Mary Beth Flynn of New York City, died at her home in NYC on July 14th, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer. A lover of all things beautiful including people, books, stray animals and travel, Mary Beth was most passionate about her family. All who knew her would agree that Mary Beth was a force of nature and that she was taken from us too soon.
Mary Beth was born on May 26, 1953, in Hartford, CT. The eldest of five children born to Catherine and Philip Flynn, she was a true "south end" girl from Barker St. She attended St. Augustine School followed by South Catholic High School and went on to Hartford College for Women. She graduated from The University of Connecticut with a degree in social work and this is where she met some of her lifelong friends. During and after college, she spent many summers on Cape Cod and started her numerous travel adventures.
Mary Beth landed in Boston and became a successful realtor. She built a strong network of friends and continued traveling with the highlight being a solo trip around the world.
New York City became her home for the past 35 years. That dense, diverse and exhilarating pace of life suited her so well. In New York, she continued her career in real estate working for Brown Harris Stevens where she handled many prominent properties located throughout Manhattan. NYC is also where Mary Beth started her family and from then on, she never looked back. She was a devoted mother to her two children and loved spending time with them, especially in the Hamptons every summer where they built many fond family memories.
Mary Beth is survived by her two children, Oliver Makula and Kathryn Makula of NYC, her siblings Ann Flynn, Janet Flynn and Brian Plouffe, Susan King and Jim Warner of West Hartford, and Jim and Kim Flynn of Holly Springs NC, as well as many nieces and nephews, – Shawn, David, Bob, and Anna Flynn, Laura Flynn Charles, Spencer King and Patrick King.
The family will receive friends at the Farley- Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd in Wethersfield, CT on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Augustine Church in Hartford, CT on Wednesday July 24, 2024 at 10:00AM.

Mary Beth was a force in the real estate industry in downtown Boston and a dear and caring friend to many. When I walk by 103 Marlborough Street, I think of her. She was a gift and will be eternally remembered for her kindness and dedication to those she loved and for all who loved her. Rest in peace..... xo
