Mary “Lydia” Fabacher Gallo entered eternal rest on Wednesday, November 19th, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family and friends at the age of 78. Born on November 17, 1947 in Slidell, Louisiana to the late Jacob A. Fabacher, Jr. and Iris Mire Fabacher. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Jane Canullette Mire and Julius A. Mire, Sr.

Beloved wife of the late Dr. Louis A. Gallo, Sr. Loving mother of Bret A. Baltz, Iris “Lainey” Margavio (Todd) and John “Jacob” Baltz, Sr. (Natalie). Proud grandmother of Brooke B. Copeland (David); Zachary Margavio, Andrew Margavio and Laken Margavio; Jenna Baltz and Jacob Baltz, Jr. Sister of Janie A. Parks, the late Emile “Buddy” Fabacher, and the late Blanche F. Haley. She was aUectionately known as Aunt Lee-Lee to her nieces and nephews.

Lydia grew up in Slidell, Louisiana and graduated from Slidell High School in 1965 and Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in 1968. She worked for over 32 years as a registered nurse, including assisting her husband, Dr. Louis A. Gallo, Sr. (OB-GYN) in surgery. In the late 1980s she attended Southern University, where she received her certification as a board-certified substance abuse counselor and went on to work at DePaul Hospital and Grace House with adolescents and their families.

Lydia was a devout Catholic and loved to serve her community. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Matthew the Apostle Church in River Ridge, Louisiana where she lived for many years. After moving to Covington thirteen years ago, she became a member of St. Benedict’s Church where she continued to serve her community. She was much loved in her neighborhood of Terra Mariae where she enjoyed organizing and playing card games, driving her friends around, going to luncheons and bringing joy to everyone she encountered. She also had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother.

She will always be remembered for her smile and enthusiastic personality. She treasured being at her grandchildren’s events and always encouraged them to go after their dreams. She enjoyed telling stories of her childhood where she worked at the family hardware store, her rebellious teenage years of climbing the water tower and proudly leading the PowderpuU flag football team to victory.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her life at the funeral mass at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 20370 Smith Road, Covington, Louisiana 70435 on Monday, November 24th, 2025 at 12 noon with visitation at the church on Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. until time of service.
