Mary Joyce (Wisenbaker) Green
June 6, 1937 – October 5, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Joyce Green of Valdosta, Georgia, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at her home.
Born on June 6, 1937, Mary was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Tally Wisenbaker; siblings Elizabeth (Lawler) Hills, Mark Wisenbaker, Claudia Dasher, Donald Wisenbaker, Christie Tuggle, and Peggy Herring; grandson James Wilkinson; son-in-law Floyd Goldman; and great-granddaughter Laney Goldman.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years, Bob M. Green; children Suzanne (Kevin) Bell, Sandra (Jay) Cobb, Bob Green Jr., Dana (Thom) Wilkinson, and John R. Green; and brother Luke (Margaret) Wisenbaker. She was the proud grandmother to Justin (Tracy) Bell, Jonathan (Katie) Bell, Brandon (Nicole) Goldman, Trevor Green, Thomas Wilkinson, Lanier Wilkinson, Marianne (Austin) Roark, John Riccio Green, and Catherine (David) Elrod. She also cherished her great-grandchildren Evelynn, Gwendolyn, Vivian, and Luke Bell; Harper and Hadley Bell; Wyatt and Birdie Goldman; KhloeeAnne Ford; and Parker Ruby Elrod.
Mary’s life was a testament to faith, love, and community. A homemaker, gardener, singer with the Singing Americans, traveler, pianist, seamstress, quilter extraordinaire, and lifelong learner, she embraced life fully. As an active member of Central Avenue Church of Christ, her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She treasured her Wednesday mornings with her quilting guild and maintained many lifelong friendships, some dating back to her days at Georgia Christian School.
Her warmth and kindness touched all who knew her, making everyone feel special and deeply loved. Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, acceptance, and a shining example of living by the teachings of Jesus.
The family finds comfort in the words of Revelation 21:4:
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain."
In accordance with Mary’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her alma mater, Georgia Christian School, 4359 Dasher Rd., Valdosta, GA 31601, or online at Georgiachristian.org.
The Green family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hospice of South Georgia and Comfort Keepers for their compassionate care, which allowed Mary to remain at home during her final days.
A funeral service to honor Mary’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
