Goldsboro-Mary Kasell Groce, 81, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at UNC Health Wayne. Born in Wayne County on March 20, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Eddie and Lela Mitchell Kasell.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Gordon McMillan, Jr. and siblings, Carl Kasell, Grace Newber, Jackie Kasell, and Jerry Douglas Kasell.
Mary is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dennis L. Groce; daughter, Sherry Hambright and husband, Dr. Wesley Hambright; and grandchildren, Dr. Parker Louin Hambright and wife, Megan and Sarah Kasell Hambright and fiancee, Jared Daborowski.
Mary grew up worshipping at Goldsboro Friends Meeting and later in life moved her membership to St. Paul Methodist Church. For 40 years Mary worked with several banks, starting her career with Wachovia and retiring from BB&T as a Banking Officer.
Mary was an avid tennis player and enjoyed time spent on the tennis court with family and friends. She took pride in her yard, working for hours outside tending to her shrubs and flowers. Mary also enjoyed needlepoint and sharing her creations with her loved ones.
A graveside service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Willow Dale Cemetery with Rev. Phyllis Vail officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mary's caregiver, Stacy Oliver for her compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wayne County Animal Shelter, 1600 Clingman Street, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
