Mary "Betsy" Hansberry Obituary
Mary Elizabeth (Williams) Hansberry, always known as Betsy, 85, of Penn
Hills and later of Monroevillle, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025. She was
the beloved wife for 53 years of the late John Francis Hansberry; loving
mother of Michael (Carrie) Hansberry of Canonsburg, the late David
Hansberry, and Maria Hansberry of Pittsburgh; and grandmother of Tiarra,
Cate, and Griffin.
Betsy was the only child of the late George and Mildred (Philippi) Williams.
She grew up in Brockway, studied at Grove City College, and, until her
marriage, worked at banks in Pittsburgh. She and John raised their three
children in Penn Hills, where Betsy was a secretary at St. James Episcopal
Church for many years. She was a long-time member of Penn Hills
Presbyterian Church and more recently of Hebron Church of Pittsburgh.
Friends and relatives will be received from 2-4 PM, followed by a memorial
service at 4 PM on Sunday, July 20, at the CHARLES W. TRENZ FUNERAL
HOME INC., 11110 Frankstown Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to a charity of
one's choice.
