Mary Hipp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bernhardt Funeral Home - Ellijay on Feb. 16, 2026.
Mrs. Mary Lou Brownlee Hipp, age 86, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026.

Mary Lou was born on November 12, 1939, in Gilmer County to the late Clyde Jefferson Brownlee and Opal Hughes. A lifelong resident of the area she loved, Mary Lou was known for her deep devotion to her family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her loving husband, Jimmy Hipp; brother, Charles Brownlee; and sister, Betty Hall.

She found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her beloved dog, Floie, was her constant companion and brought her endless comfort and happiness. More than anything, Mary Lou's pride and joy was her grandson, Ben. She treasured every moment spent watching him grow, cheering him on at his sporting events, and celebrating his accomplishments. Being his grandmother was one of the greatest blessings of her life.

Mary Lou also enjoyed staying connected with friends and family through Facebook and loved playing games online, where she could share laughs and friendly competition.

She will be remembered for her love of family, her gentle presence, and the special way she made those around her feel cherished. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Sam Wigington, of Jasper, GA; grandson, Ben Wigington, of Jasper, GA; and a host of cousins also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 21st at 3 pm from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Moss Fountain officiating. Interment will follow in the Yukon Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers, Benjamin Wigington, Billy Crump, Eli Chastain, Noah Cleghorn, Jeremiah Quinton, and Jeffrey Kate.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 21st from 10 am until the service hour at 3 pm at the funeral home.
