Mary J. Kallen
Pittsford- Mary J. Kallen of Pittsford passed peacefully on July 16, 2024, surrounded by family at RRMC.
She was born February 27, 1932, in Rutland, the daughter of the late Josephine and Benjamin Trombetta of Center Rutland, Vt.
She attended schools in Center Rutland and graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy in 1950.
She married Robert Kallen in 1953 and moved to Florence where she lived until 2005, when she moved to Pittsford.
Mary was a girl scout leader in 1962 and helped start a new program with her best friend Josephine Keith for girls in the area.
She was a member of the Sodality of our Lady of Fatima in Pittsford and belonged to St. Alphonsus Parish.
She worked for M.H.Fishman Co. and California Fruit. After coming to Florence, she worked briefly at Kamuda's Market and then Keiths Trading Post (Keiths Country Store) where she retired in 2001 after 33 years. Later she worked on a part-time basis.
Mary enjoyed knitting, bowling, casino trips, doing puzzles, reading and watching her beloved Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox. Most of all, she enjoyed watching her four grandsons grow up and supporting them in their academic, athletic and personal endeavors
She belonged to the American Legion Unit 31 and Moose Lodge 1122. She also helped with mailings at the Rutland County Humane Society.
Survivors include her daughter Catherine LaJoice and husband Joseph of Pittsford, Robert Kallen and wife Kathy of Florence, Davyd Chapin and husband Charles Capito of Springfield, VA, grandchildren Robert Wetmore, Joseph Wetmore and wife Donna of Fair Haven, Thomas and Steven Kallen, both of Florence, her sister Barbara Burns of CT. She is also survived by one recent great granddaughter, Robert's daughter Harper along with several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1987 and her brother Thomas Trombetta in 1997.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to3 PM on Friday July 26 at the Barnard funeral Home followed by a graveside service in Evergreen Cemetery in Pittsford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.
