Christian graveside service for Mary Kathryn McKenney, 80, of Gillette will be Friday, January 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Mt Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette, Wyoming. A vigil and prayer service will be at 6:00PM Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Kathy passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Legacy Living & Rehabilitation Center. Kathy was born on October 15, 1944, to Edgar and Violet (Stuklick) Carson in Logan, KS. She was raised in Kansas, attending Senior High School in Elkhart, Kansas, graduating in 1962. She attended Fort Hayes University for one year, majoring in journalism. On Nov. 27, 1963, she married Darrel McKenney, her high school sweetheart. In 1968, they moved to Gillette where they raised their family. She later worked for St Matthews Church and First Interstate Bank. Kathy loved camping with her husband and children when she was young. She loved travelling and took a cruise to Alaska with her sister Donna in 2004, visited Ireland in 2008, went to Washington D.C. and Philadelphia in 2019, and took many road trips over the years. She enjoyed reading, book club, her garden, genealogy, & playing World of Warcraft with her family. Kathy was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Kathy is survived by her children, Donna Lynd (Martin) Ward of Pointblank, TX; Shawn Ray (Cherokee) McKenney, Michael Shane (Angela) McKenney and Mary Shannon McKenney of Gillette; eight grandchildren, Kevin Ward, Kris Ward, Rachel Moring, Payge McKenney, Zack Stubblefield, Ashley McKenney, Madeline McKenney, and Darrel McKenney; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Donna McCormack of Gillette, and numerous nephews, nieces and in laws. She was preceded in death by her husband Darrel McKenney, parents Edgar and Violet Carson, brother Dean Carson and sister Dixie Hooper. A memorial in Kathy McKenney’s name has been established and will be designated later. Donations may be sent in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716.
