Mary Kent, (nee Bence), 96, of Paramus, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Before retiring to raise her family, Mary worked as a Design Seamstress for designer Evan-Picone. Mary was a beautiful woman who was cherished by all. She was incredibly generous, kind and loved her family dearly.
Mary was a loving mother of daughter, Linda Kent, son Steven (Kristine) Kent, and son Paul (Julie) Kent and treasured grandmother to Chandler, Paige, Cooper, Rhonda and Finley.
Mary was born in New York City, and the family (Edwin and Bertha, parents, and Paul, brother) moved to Belgium soon after. They experienced World War II in Antwerp. After Edwin passed, they moved back to America. Mary met Joseph Kent through a social club, and they were married for 44 years until Joseph's passing in 2007. Mary worked tirelessly to raise the boys and support Linda and, in addition, took care of her own mother who lived until 104. She travelled extensively with Joseph and enjoyed seeing her relatives and friends in Belgium.
She treasured her time at Lake George with the extended family that has always been a part of summer and beyond. She was well known for creating a Belgian waffle feast but also for her cheese and jam sandwiches. No weekend at Lake George was complete without her pitcher of iced tea. Mary loved going out for dinner and playing card games, and she bowled into her 90's. She occasionally played the accordion, which she trained in as a child, along with tap dancing. Mary was a Roman Catholic and showed her faith through her acts of service, kindness and love.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Avenue, Paramus, NJ. Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 am on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Visitation R.C. Church, 234 N. Farview Avenue, Paramus. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in Mary's memory may be made to Special Olympics NJ at SONJ.ORG.
