Mary Margaret Davis-Lutz passed away on Monday, October 13th surrounded by her family. She was born April 12,1948 in Martins Ferry, Ohio. She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Richard Lutz; two daughters, Kimberly (Don) Goff, and Lainie (Sean) Zimmerman; two grandchildren – Dylan and Lexi Goff; her brother Charles Davis, as well as many loving family members and friends. She was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Martins Ferry where she served as a Eucharistic minister. Most recently she was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Hilliard.
Mary held various part time jobs over the years, including working for the priests at Saint Mary's rectory. By far, though, her most important roles were that of loyal wife, doting mother, and amazing grandmother. She was also a true friend and a generous soul, giving money to many different charities on a regular basis – or to anyone who needed it. One cause that was especially near and dear to her was St. Jude's Hospital, as she herself spent way too much time at Children's Hospital in Columbus in her own childhood.
During her lifetime, Mary faced numerous health-related challenges and had a very complicated medical history. In spite of this, she never let her issues define who she was. She was by far one of the strongest people any of us have ever known, and she relied heavily on her sense of humor to help her cope. She frequently joked with those who treated her over the years and usually made them laugh during her visits. She pushed herself physically to the max, insisting upon cooking and baking for her family even when it was difficult for her. She was an amazing cook and took great pride in how much everyone raved about her food. She loved dogs, especially her own, Danny and Dani (don't ask). She also loved her daughters' dogs – Minka, Emmitt and Zoey. She did everything she could to support her children and grandchildren and made every holiday and family gathering special. She never missed a chance to attend a baseball or basketball game when her grandchildren were playing, and she was present for all of their milestones and important events. She loved watching true crime shows, going out for dinner, sitting on the front porch swing, and trips with her family. So many treasured memories were made in Hocking Hills, Ocean City, and SugarCreek.
Mary was the heart and soul of her own little family and the glue that held them all together. She will be deeply mourned and missed beyond measure. She was so proud and never wanted anyone to know how much she was struggling with her health. "I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us" Romans 8:18. "Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives in me and believes in me will never die" John 11:25-26.
Friends may call Saturday from 10 am – 12 pm in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 20 N 4th St, Martins Ferry. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will follow in St Mary's Church at 12 pm with Father Thomas Marut officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home, Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry.
Contributions may be St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in Mary's memory.
