I'm years late to this party, but I'm writing with the hope that Mary Ellen/Mel's kids will see this. She was one of my two first friends, back in Norwalk. Her house on Lockwood Lane was very close to our house on Jackson Drive, so we spent a lot of time together when we were around 5. Then my family moved across town and we lost touch until high school. I loved going to her house. Her mom was always kind, and there was a wonderful nook at the top of the stairs. I remember Mel as a happy kid with a big smile, always ready to play.

I met Mel, as she was known to her Connecticut friends, 28 years ago in September when our youngest children entered preschool. We instantly clicked and become best friends. I always remember our Christmas Tree Shop excursions . We would put items in our cart and then Mel would turn to me and say do you really need this? Next thing you know we are walking around the store and putting items back on the shelf. Even after Mel moved to NC, we lost touch for a little bit; but, when we reconnected, the friendship was as strong as ever. We helped each other out through all the laughter and the tears and I will miss her support and friendship. Exactly a year ago when I told Mel that I had bats in my attic, her immediate response was I know you love Halloween; but, don't you think you went a little overboard on the decorations this year?! My condolences to Sean, Chris and her sister. Mel you will remain in my heart; however, there will be a void in my life without you around. Rest in peace as you are reunited with Colleen, your parents, Marley and all your other cats and dogs. In my mind I see you in your tie dye shirt with a huge smile on your face, driving a vintage VW beetle listening to Joplin. You were taken too soon and until we meet again my friend, look over me and everyone else.
