Bertrand James Odom, lovingly known as Bert, passed away on August 15, 2025 at Hospice House in Monroe, NC, following a brave battle with Lung Cancer and Alzheimer's disease. Born on October 24, 1947 in Columbia, SC, Bert lived a remarkable life characterized by dedication, hard work, and love for his family.
A proud graduate of Harding High School in 1965, Bert embarked on a lifelong career in plumbing, beginning his journey with JV Andrews Plumbing before moving on to Mecklenburg Plumbing and Rea Brothers. In time, he established his own business, Liberty Plumbing & Piping, LLC, becoming well-respected in the industry for his expertise and unwavering commitment to quality.
Bert cherished his time spent with family and friends, always eager to share his interests in golfing, fishing, and traveling. He enjoyed many memorable adventures, creating cherished moments that will forever be treasured by those he leaves behind.
Bert is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Kaye Odom, who stood by his side through all of life’s seasons. He was a devoted father to his two daughters, Melissa Cauthen (Lanny) and Vicky Lowder (Jerry), and a proud grandfather to his grandchildren Kayla Elks (John), Peyton Bryant, Hayley Delaney (Chris), Morgan Maynard (Nicholas) and Colby Lowder. He also delighted in the joy of his nine great-grandchildren, with one more expected to arrive in November 2025.
He is preceded in death by his father, Fred Odom, and his mother, Jane Odom, who have welcomed him into eternal rest.
As we remember Bert, we celebrate a life that was dedicated to family, work, and living each day to its fullest. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
