Mary Ann Battalio Mistric, age 92, a native of Opelousas, Louisiana, and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, 3475 North Sherwood Forest Boulevard. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Bellevue Memorial Park, 4833 LA 182 in Opelousas. Mary Ann was born on August 24, 1932, the only child of Russel and Mary Nicko Battalio. She married her high school sweetheart, Carl L. Mistric, on June 28, 1952. They were married for 68 years, with a love of the ages. Mary Ann lived a wonderful, full life that brought pride to her family and loved ones. In those years, Mary Ann became the pillar of their family which has grown to over fifty members. Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who instilled a strong sense of values and principles in her family. As a devout Catholic, she was one of the original parishioners of Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church. After its establishment, Mary Ann remained active within the church, organizing events such as the Saint Joseph Altar and often bringing all her grandchildren to Midnight Mass dressed in her finest. Mary Ann was a successful businesswoman. In 1970, Mary Ann and her husband co-founded C. Mistric Surveyors. With her hard work and determination, they ran a thriving business for over 54 years.
Mary Ann also followed her passion for writing and became a published author of numerous collections. Through her love of writing, she became a founding member of the Louisiana Writers Guild. She actively contributed to the organization by serving on the Board of Directors in various capacities. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, mother, and husband. She is survived by her sons, Russel Mistric and wife, Mona, and Cory Mistric and her daughters Julie Lang and husband, Kent, Kathy Gunby, and Jo Ann Casso; grandchildren Melinda West and husband Robert, Josh Gunby and wife Paige, Kevin Mistric and wife Jackie, Allison Sprouse and husband Johnathon, Cory Paul Mistric II and wife Jana, Travis Gunby, Casey Mistric and wife Silke, Rustin Mistric and wife Erin, Lawrence Casso and wife Rachel, and Kristin Mistric; and great-grandchildren Kyle, Brandon, Christopher, Collin, Evie, Jackson, Carrington, Hudson, Liam, Ella, Dylan, Kennedy, Colton, Gabriel, Caydence, Katelyn, Olivia, Luca, Amelia, Michael, and Emily, due in February. Mary Ann lived an amazing life filled with compassion, integrity, values, and discipline. She will be missed by so many, but her legacy will continue to live on through the lives of those she touched.
