Mary D. Olechowski

Mary Diane Olechowski passed away at the age of 76 on Saturday, May 24th, 2025. She is survived by her children Karen (Terence) Brannigan, Steven (fiancée Dora), Kevin (Joeal Butkovich), and Michael; siblings Delores, Raymond, and Leonard; and seven grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Stephen; brothers Chuck, Eddie, and Richard; and daughter-in-law Kathleen (Gudenau).
A lifelong resident of Michigan, Mary was born in Detroit on May 5, 1949 to Mary and Joseph Mazalouskas, the youngest of seven children. She and Stephen were high school sweethearts. He was deployed to Korea for just under two years, during which they kept in contact via letters. They married on April 26th, 1969 at St. Albertus Catholic Church in Detroit. Mary was a dedicated mother to her four children, always ensuring the household ran smoothly even as she and Stephen opened their house to extended family members. She worked at Our Lady Queen of Heaven, tending to the church for many years.
Mary's loved ones remember her as hard-working, loving, and active. Her kids and grandchildren tell loving tales of her food-especially her apple pancakes. Along with her husband, she faithfully attended her children's and grandchildren's sporting events, extracurricular activities, and milestone events. A social butterfly, she made instant friends with her warm and welcoming nature. She was a competitive card and bingo player, and also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and '50s-'60s music.
Mary will be laid out on Wednesday, May 28that Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home at 13650 Fifteen Mile Road in Sterling Heights from 2pm-9pm with a 7pm Rosary. There will be a mass held at St. Michael Catholic Church on 40501 Hayes Rd in Sterling Heights on Thursday, May 29th at 9:30am with visiting beginning at 9am.
