Mary Elizabeth Butterworth Parson

PARSON, Mary Elizabeth Butterworth, 85, of Stony Creek, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, August 11, 2009. The daughter of the late Gertrude and Hamilton David Butterworth Sr. of Dewitt, Virginia, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lunsford, Mac and Hamilton D. Butterworth Jr., all of Dinwiddie County. A devoted wife and mother, "Nana" is survived by her husband of 65 years, George Lee Parson Jr.; her children, Pat Graham, Anne Everett and her husband, Lance, and Julie Parson; seven grandchildren, Larry and Luke Graham, Christopher Everett and his wife, Amy, Randy Everett and his wife, Melissa, and Joshua, Chelsea, and Darby Boyd; seven great-grandchildren, Laine and Alexis Everett, Christopher and Amy's daughters, and Regan, Natalie, Bryce, Jake, and Addison Everett, Randy and Melissa's children; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ivan McDowell Butterworth Sr. and Mrs. James S. Harris. Mary Elizabeth attended State Teacher's College at Farmville (Longwood University). She was an active member of Concord United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and served in the United Methodist Women. Collecting antiques and playing bridge were treasured hobbies. Mary Elizabeth and G L. loved ballroom dancing and shared many a dance in their long years together. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Concord United Methodist Church in Stony Creek. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Following the interment, the family will receive friends at a reception in the church social hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Concord United Methodist Church, 25713 Courthouse Road, Stony Creek, Virginia 23882.
