Pearo, Mary Margaret Johnston
Age 95 of NE Minneapolis passed away on January 19, 2024 surrounded by family. Mary was a wonderful mom, wife and friend to many.
Mary was born February 21,1928 in Minneapolis, MN to Robert and Margaret Stevenson. She attended St Lawrence High School and graduated from the University of Minnesota with teaching credentials. She married Doug Johnston October 1949, and they had 5 children. They divorced in 1964. Mary raised her children as a single mother while teaching 4th grade at Sheridan and Waite Park schools.
She married Roy Pearo in December 1974, creating a family with 12 children. The large, blended family celebrated Christmas in the showroom of Hilltop Trailer. Mary and Roy traveled the world, golfing every day at their cabin on Crosslake and while wintering in CA and AZ - Mary had 2 hole-in-ones. She was a voracious reader and did daily crossword puzzles.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Doug and Roy, son Craig and brother Robert Jr. She is survived by sons Stephen (Cindy) Johnston, Mark Johnston, daughters Elizabeth Brown, Susan (Jon) Allen, and Roy's children Betsy Jaros, Chuck Pearo, Jerry (Maureen) Pearo, Dick Pearo, Charlotte (Joe) Wentzel, Gina (Mike) Marushin, and Mary (Brad) Johnson.
Mary's legacy continued in her role as "GG" - grandmother to 26, great-grandmother to 51 and great-great-grandmother to 4. She will be lovingly remembered by all.
