On October 29, 1951, Mary Margaret Jones entered this world to the late Olivia and
Wilbur Jones Sr., at Wilmington Memorial Hospital. She was the baby of eleven children. Mary,
affectionately known as Margaret, grew up in a nurturing and caring family. She cherished the
bond with her brother and sisters.
Margaret received her formal education in the Wilmington Public School System. She
went on to work in the medical field at the Wilmington Medical Center for several years until
leaving to take care of her father. Once returning back to work, Margaret went to work for
Veterans Affairs in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. She later transferred to the Wilmington VA, where
she retired as a medical tech after 35 years.
Margaret had many joys throughout her life. Her first joy was giving birth to her
daughter, Deneen, in 1966 and then to her son, Kevin, in 1968. She loved being a mother. She
often told stories of her Deneen and Kevin, especially about the times they shared growing up
on Monroe Street. Her next joy came when she gained the title of "grandmom". At any given
time you could find her spoiling and picking up her grandchildren for the weekend; and believe
there was nothing like the weekends at grandmom's.
She was later married to John Pierre of 10 years in which they enjoyed traveling
together. Another one of her joys was her passion for cooking. You could often find her in the
kitchen with her huge pots and pans cooking family favorites such as fried fish, macaroni and
cheese, sweet potatoes, and cabbage. Holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas were her
favorites along with "National Pancake Day."
Margaret was a well-known woman who made a grand impression in any room she was
in. Many noticed her by her infamous blonde hair and outspoken energy. She loved her family
and friends unconditionally.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Olivia and Wilbur Jones Sr., her son:
Kevin Jones; her brothers: Eugene Chase, Thomas Chase, Adolphus Chase, Wilbert Jones Jr.,
Larry (Adeline) Jones, and her beloved Maurice Jones Sr. Her sisters: Ruby Drake, Geraldine
Chase, Elizabeth "Sissy" Willis, and Patsy Ann Jones. Devoted Niece: Valarie White and Devoted
Nephew: Michael White.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughter: Deneen McManus,
daughter-in-law: Penny Hayward; brother-in-law: Tannis Willis; Sisters-in-law: Ellen Chase
(Adolphus), Faye Jones (Wilbur Jr) and Sharon Jones (Maurice Sr.). Granddaughters (4): Zakieah
(Curtis) Buchanan, Erica McManus, Ebonese McManus, and Darnasha Carney; Great-
grandchildren (6): Zhaira Wright, Eryn Banks, Camryn Buchanan, Chayce Buchanan, Giana
Garvin, and Domear Miller Jr.; Devoted bonus son: Corey (Sandy) Ferrell; Devoted son-in-law:
