She is also preceded in death by her father, Clarence Theodore Haire; mother, Gertie Mae Adams Haire; brother, Clarence Theodore Haire, Jr. (Bubba); brother, Charles Hubert Haire; and sister, Marie Elizabeth Doss.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Mae Ramey Ladd and her husband, Carl Louis Ladd, Sr. of Dinwiddie VA.

She is also survived by her sisters, Gloria Delores Helmer and her husband, Howard Helmer, and Janette Irene Davenport; her grandchildren, Carl Louis Ladd, Jr. and Rachel Michelle Ladd Dotts; and her great-grandchildren, Dillon Scott Ladd, Davis Payne Ladd, Oscar Joseph Pride (JoJo), Jaylin Olivia Pride, and James Jordan Pride.

Mary was born in Petersburg, Virginia. She attended Petersburg High School followed by a career in retail sales. Her most fulfilling position was working at the Stork Shop & Soft Touch Boutique, where she provided 30 plus years of dependable, caring service to her customers.

A woman of true faith, she always put God first in everything she did and openly shared her love for Jesus. Mary attended The Heights Baptist Church, where she was active in her small group bible study and served as a greeter for all entering the church. Her favorite song was “Because He Lives”. She truly believed that because Jesus was resurrected from the grave and lives in Heaven today, that we can live each day with hope and assurance of eternal life.

Mary loved travels to the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, her favorite place to be. She had a huge collection of angels and loved the message and purpose of angels, which is delivering messages for the Lord, accompanying the lonely and suffering, and granting protection. She enjoyed canning vegetables, family events and gatherings, and boating on the lake. More than anything, Mary enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Her pride and joy was her grandson, Nathan, who she is now reunited with in Heaven.

Mary had a servant’s heart helping in any way she could to provide assistance and support to those in need. She always put others first.

Mary’s love of life and enjoyment in sharing it with others brought her extended families who just plain adopted her as their own. She could always be counted on to add comic relief and bring laughter to any situation. In recent years, she became less active and unable to participate in her passions, though she said she lived a long and productive life, praising God for all her many blessings he has shown upon her.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Crater Road Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA. Entombment will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. in Southlawn Memorial Park’s Mausoleum, S. Prince George, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University, in memory of Mary Ramey's grandson, Donald "Nathan" Harris, PO Box 980693, Richmond, VA 23298 or support.chfrichmond.org
