Mary Ruggles of Nashville, Ill., departed this life at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 3:23 p.m. She was 83.
Mrs. Ruggles was born on June 15, 1940, in Anna, Ill., the daughter of Francis and Mary Edythe Woesthaus. She married Richard "Dick" Ruggles on Aug. 20, 1960, in Anna. He survives her passing.
Mary was an artist, entrepreneur, traveler, sister, friend, and above all, the Ruggles family matriarch. Her most treasured titles were wife, mom, grandma, and G-G. She was a passionate fan when she was related to the coach or player, a happy host for holiday gatherings, and adoring great-grandmother who delighted in brownie-baking, after-school pick-ups, and big bear hugs.
She founded Country Paintin' Place, where she taught painting classes and sold her work, and Mary-Go-Round Travel, which hosted vacation tours. She also volunteered for the Hospital Auxiliary and the Lunch Ladies at St. Ann Church.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Dick Ruggles of Nashville; four children, Randy (Cheryl) Ruggles of Nashville, Kathy (Gary) Hulcher of Springfield, Kim (Chad) Gregory of St. Louis, and Kristi Ruggles of St. Louis; five grandchildren, Mallory (Raymond) Kauling, Kevin Ryan (Bethany) Ruggles, Reena (Kurt) Peppenhorst, Jordan Hulcher, and Kelsey Hulcher; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Joan (Gerald) Luechtefeld of Lively Grove; nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Kevin Ruggles, and sister Rita Dean.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville, IL on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 9 A.M. with Fr. Andy Knopik officiating. Interment will follow in the Old St. Ann Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville, IL on Sunday from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. and on Monday from 7:30 A.M. until 8:30 A.M.
Should friends desire, mass offerings or memorials can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
