Mary Jean (Jeanne) Schellman, wife, mother, grandmother, speech pathologist and volunteer, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2022, with her family at her side. She was born on November 28, 1949, in Jefferson City, MO to the late Fredrick and Ramona (Schulte) Luetkemeyer. Jeanne is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Leon (Max) Schellman, her daughter, Jill Puffer (Scott) of St. Louis, MO, her son, John Schellman (Anne) of Orinda, CA. She is also survived by three sisters: Marsha Dubbert (Patrick) of Jefferson City, MO, Lisa Griffin (Phil) of Lee's Summit, MO and Dee Ann Parkinson (John) of Lenexa, KS. Also surviving are her 4 adoring grandchildren: Caroline and Benjamin Puffer and Kevin and Luke Schellman.
Jeanne graduated from Fontbonne University, majoring in Speech Pathology with a Psychology minor. During her senior year she met the love her life, Max, and they married on May 20,1972. She earned a Masters degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Missouri. She had a long and successful career working in various aspects of Speech Pathology which included serving as adjunct faculty at Southeast Missouri State University. She retired from Bethesda North Hospital after 24 years of working with head trauma and stroke patients. In her retirement, she enjoyed travelling the world with Max and spent many hours with family and friends at their second home in Napa, CA.
In addition to her family, Jeanne loved being with her many friends always bringing joy to others with her smile and caring interest in their life stories. She especially enjoyed discovering connections and common interests people share. She was known for being a thoughtful listener and energetic supporter of others and had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. She also delighted in cooking and entertaining and hosted many delicious lunch and dinner parties and holiday gatherings. She was a volunteer at Good Shepherd Catholic Church participating in the bereavement ministry and Jeanne and Max were very active in supporting education, particularly the secondary schools and universities their children attended.
Jeanne will be truly missed for her loving and kind nature, her beautiful heart, her intelligence, her support of education and learning, and mostly, for her devotion to her friends, family and loving husband.
Her family wishes to thank the physicians, nurses and health care workers who were so caring and supportive during her brief illness.
Visitation will be at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church followed by Funeral Mass at Noon on Tuesday October 4, 2022.
Memorials suggested to DePaul Cristo Rey High School in Cincinnati or Ursuline Academy of Cincinnati.
