MARY SEGELHORST
Mrs. Mary Segelhorst of Addieville, IL departed this life in the Friendship Manor Health Care Center in Nashville, IL on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 2:58 P.M. She had attained the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 11 days.
Mary was born in St. Louis, MO on July 14, 1937, the daughter of Andy and Ruby (nee Culp) Davis. She was united in marriage to Lester Segelhorst in the St. Salvator Lutheran Church in Venedy, IL on November 28, 1954, and he preceded her in death on November 4, 2023.
Mary's life can be summed up in a word, service. Service to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, service to her church, and service to others. She was a faithful member of the St. Salvator Lutheran Church. She was a strong believer in mission work and was not shy, sharing her testimony of faith with others. She was a voracious reader of scripture, and her Bible was filled with highlight marker. Mary was also a talented artist and used her God-given talent to serve her church. She painted the nativity display that is still in use to this day at St. Salvator. She also restored an old painting of Jesus that can now be seen in the church Education Building. Mary loved to sing and could often be heard singing her favorite hymns.
As mentioned earlier, Mary was a talented painter and artist. She also made ceramics and dabbled in many other arts and crafts activities. Mary worked alongside her husband as a bookkeeper for his business, Segelhorst Garage in Addieville. In addition to working with Lester, Mary served others by operating a successful sewing and alteration shop out of their home. Health, wellness, and proper nutrition were also important to Mary. She began counseling others about health and wellness and sold vitamins, supplements and other health products from her shop. Mary enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers, but most of all she loved time spent with her family.
Left to mourn her passing are three children, Celeste Wiesner and husband John of Venedy, Katie Crane and husband Clyde of Addieville, and Lester "L.P." Segelhorst of Addieville; eight grandchildren, Daniel Wiesner and wife Adrienne, Sarah Bullock and husband Tyler, Zachary Wiesner and wife Karla, Morgen Crane, Raquel Powell and husband Brad, Noland Crane, and Jacob and Beverly Segelhorst; 11 great grandchildren, Amelia, Sam, Elizabeth, Nadia, James, Grant, Logan, Alex, Nathan, Benjamin, and Oliver; a sister, Beatrice Jacobs and husband Paul of North Augusta, SC; three sisters-in-law, Diane Davis of FL, Shirley Vernon of Okawville, IL, and Jeanette Segelhorst of Venedy; several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Davis; and brothers-in law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held from the St. Salvator Lutheran Church in Venedy on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:30 A.M. with Pastor James d'Entremont officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
