Mary Coleen Smith, 89, of Shelbyville, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord early Thursday morning, November 20, 2025, at Timber Creek Village Assisted Living.

She was born on April 30, 1936, in Toronto, Canada, the daughter of the late Earl Edmund and Edith May (Spencer) Magee.

Mary attended Salem Bible College in Salem, Ohio, and later People's Bible College in Colorado Springs, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. It was there she met the love of her life, Richard Edward Smith, and the two were married on May 28, 1959.

Together, Richard and Mary devoted their lives to ministry in the Emmanuel Association of Churches, serving congregations in Pennsylvania, Hunter, Kansas, Shubert, Nebraska, Watertown, South Dakota, New Philadelphia, and Xenia, Ohio, and eventually returning to Colorado Springs, where Richard served for many years as president of People's Bible College. They later completed their ministry in Vineland, New Jersey, and Logansport, Indiana.

Mary was resilient, well-organized, and a faithful helpmeet to her husband. She created a warm and welcoming home everywhere they served-always beautifully decorated, always spotless, and always filled with love. She was an excellent cook and a gifted seamstress. Above all, Mary cherished her family and treasured every moment with her children and grandchildren.

Mary also carried a deep love for the people of Bolivia. She was instrumental in helping open a mission work there and remained a committed supporter of the Emmanuel Mission of Bolivia throughout her life. She attended the Shelbyville Bible Holiness Church.

Those left to cherish Mary's memory include her two sons, Donald Edward (Angela Ruth) Smith of Shelbyville and Mark Allen (Stephanie Ann) Smith of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren, Melanie Smith, Shelley Smith, Ashley (Dustin) Snider, Christopher (Julie) Smith, and Tiffany Smith; and seven great-grandchildren, Cody, McKenzie, and Ethan Snider, Jessica, Violet, Autumn, and Christa Smith; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Rev. Richard Edward Smith; two sisters, Dorothy and Betty; and three brothers, Donald, Earl, and Wesley.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Shelbyville Bible Holiness Church, 2911 E. Michigan Road, with Pastor Joe Smith officiating. Friends may call at the church from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Burial will take place at Memorial Gardens in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Mission of Bolivia. You may share a personal condolence at www.sprolesfamilycares.com.
