The Swinney family sadly announces the death of their beloved mother, Mary Faye Swinney, 84, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at her residence.
Faye was born on December 23rd, 1940, to Estill and Thursey Horton. Her father, Estill, passed away before her birth, and she was lovingly raised in Louisville, KY, by her mother Thursey and stepfather Haskel Bishop.
She graduated from Ahrens Traditional High School in 1959 and began her career as a waitress at the Lighthouse Restaurant. In 1964, via her best friend Shirley, she met Kenneth "Kenny" Swinney while sneaking into Bob's Bar where he worked as a bouncer. As the story goes, "the rest was history." They married later and built a loving family together, raising six children.
Faye is preceded in death by her parents, Estill Horton, Thursey Bishop, Haskel Bishop, her husband Kenny, as well as her son Michael "Mikey" Swinney. She is survived by her five children (Dennis (wife Melinda), Vickie (husband Rocky), Buddy (wife Angie), Karla (husband Matthew) and Jeff (wife Michelle), 10 grandchildren (Brent, Kristen, Crista, Tommy IV, Daniel, Josh, Samantha, Liam, Haleigh, and Macie), and 14 great-grandchildren (Andrew, Evan, Oliver, Avery, Thomas V, Allie, Owen, Ian, Kinsley, Eli, River, Adaline, Vivian and Travis).
Faye's career reflected her passion for finance and hard work. She spent many years in banking, working at the Bank of Louisville, Bank of St. Helens, and ultimately retiring from Fifth Third Bank. Even in retirement, her strong work ethic led her to continue working at Highlands Cleaners in Middletown.
Outside of work, Faye's greatest joy was her family. She was a lifelong country music fan, attending Fan Fair (now known as CMA Fest) beginning in 1972. She was also an avid bingo player, eagerly anticipating her Tuesday and Sunday games at Breckenridge Bingo and J-Town Bingo.
Visitation will be held at Pearson's Funeral Home (149 Breckenridge Lane) on Wednesday, September 17, from 3:00 PM–8:00 PM, and on Thursday, September 18, from 11:00 AM–1:30 PM. A funeral service will follow on Thursday at 1:30 PM, with a procession to her final resting place at Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family warmly welcomes friends and loved ones to come celebrate Faye's life and share memories of the joy she brought to so many.
