Mary L. “Pidgeon” Tabares, 79, Emporia, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, Kansas.
Mary Louise Cisneros was born in Emporia, Kansas on June 7, 1946, the daughter of Felix and Faye (DeLatore) Cisneros. She married Anthony “Toppy” Tabares at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Emporia, on October 1, 1966. He survives. Other surviving family members are her sons; Nicholas “Nick” Tabares, Damien Tabares (Monica Taylor) and Adrian Cisneros Tabares, all of Emporia, brothers; Felix Cisneros, Jr. Shawnee, Kansas, Robert Cisneros and Phillip Cisneros, Emporia, Kansas, sister; Rachel Rodriguez Emporia, Kansas, grandchildren; Alexis Schwarz-Decker, Emilio Fowler Tabares, Danni Hill, and Andreas Tabares, as well as 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard “Tom” Cisneros.
Mrs. Tabares was an interpreter for Lyon County Health Department in Emporia prior to her retirement several years ago. Before Lyon County Health Department she had worked as a bank teller. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Emporia.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Emporia. Inurnment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited in the church Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 6:00 PM Cremation is planned.
A memorial has been established with the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School, Contributions may be sent through Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
