Mrs. Mary Josephine (Ripepi) Tambasco, 85, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10,, 2024 at Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care in Gloversville, NY surrounded by her family.
A lifelong area resident, Mary was born on March 24, 1939 in
Amsterdam, NY the daughter of the late Carmelo and Genoeffa "Jennie" Raco Ripepi. She was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1957 and voted class clown and was a Majorette with the AHS Marching Rams.
Mary was a stay at home mom for most of her life. She worked for the Amsterdam Recorder when she was young and also at Carl's Drug store as a pharmacy clerk when the youngest of her children were all in school full time. Mary attended weekly exercise classes with her daughter Maria for over 20 years and was an inspiration to all. She left behind a cat Misty who kept her company for the past six years following her husband Vito's passing.
A devout Catholic, Mary was a lifelong member of Historic St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, where she also sang in the choir. She loved singing Frank Sinatra (aka her boyfriend) songs at family events during Karoke. Mary enjoyed family gatherings and celebrations to the fullest and always had a smile on her face.
Mary lived her life to the fullest and favored the local casinos often with her family. Her sense of humor and wit was infectious and she made friends wherever she went. In her last weeks at Mountain Valley Hospice she made friends and was singing Christmas carols up until her final days.
On May 7, 1961 she was united in marriage to Vito "Gypo" Tambasco. That union was blessed with 57 years until his passing on August 5th, 2018. She was also predeceased by her siblings Thomas Ripepi, Angelina Ripepi, Philomena Torrisi, Nancy Pupa and Antoinette Wells.
She is survived by her children, Christopher (Lori) Tambasco, Paula Tambasco (Michelle Annese, Partner), Maria Tambasco (John Brady), Regina (Matthew) Flint, and Renee Sapia (Joe Santos); seven grandchildren, Abigail Tambasco, Brett Flint, Kacie McGillin, Phillip Tambasco, Taylor Flint, Melissa Sapia, and Andolina Santos; one brother-in-law, Daniel Tambasco and his wife Geri; step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 11a.m. at Historic St. Mary's Church with Rev. Nathaniel Resila as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024 from 5p.m. until 7p.m. at the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church Street,
