Mary Ann (DiCello) Tompkins, age 65, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, holding her husband's hand and surrounded by her family and friends. In her final days, Mary Ann was visited by countless loved ones, neighbors, and friends who cherished her bright spirit and generous heart.
Mary Ann married Michael Patrick Tompkins, her loving husband of 33 years, with whom she shared a life filled with love, laughter, and companionship. Together, they raised their son, Ian Tompkins, who was the pride and joy of Mary Ann's life. Mary Ann was also a devoted animal lover, often found with her beloved dogs at her side. For 15 years, Mary Ann worked as a Payroll Manager for UPS. Beyond her professional achievements, she was known for her warmth, sense of humor, and generosity. To say she was the life of the party is an understatement-Mary Ann's infectious laughter and ever-present smile made her the heart of any gathering. She treasured every moment spent with family and friends.
Mary Ann was a devoted mother, passionately supporting her son Ian in his athletic pursuits. She could be found at every one of his baseball games, from St. X High School to Western Kentucky University, cheering him on alongside Mike. Seeing him make a profession out of his love for baseball brought her tremendous joy. Her favorite Friday nights were spent at the ballpark, offering encouragement-and the occasional well-deserved critique of the umpire. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Michael Patrick Tompkins; her son, Ian Tompkins (Courtney); and her sisters, Cecilia DiCello Wheeler (David) and Marguerite DiCello Shulhafer. Brother-in-laws; Tom Tompkins (Heather), Paul Tompkins (Leo). Nieces and nephews; Roy DiCello (Diana), Marti DiCello Kleine-Kracht (Dave), Kelly Wheeler (Sarah), Alison Wheeler Rich (Ben), Emily Wheeler, Clay Shulhafer (Jenny), Alex, Marc, and Eric Tompkins (Paul). Lastly, her great nieces and nephews: Cole, Emma (Kelly), Corrigan and Logan (Clay), Natalie DiCello McBeath (Ryan), Katie DiCello-Berry (Dalton), and Joey (Roy).
She leaves behind a group of life-long friends, including Mary, Mitt, Kathleen, Connie, Karen, Terry, Susan, Donna, and Jenny. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Sheehan and Antonio DiCello, and her brothers, Roy, Robby, and Johnny DiCello.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Ascension Catholic Church, 4600 Lynnbrook Dr, Louisville, KY 40220 with Fr. Robert Barnell presiding. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery followed afterward by a gathering in her honor at the Aero Club. The family will gather with friends on Monday, August 26, 2024 from 1 PM until 7 PM at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Rd., Louisville, KY 40218.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mary Ann's devoted husband, Michael, who's loving care was recognized by all who knew her. Special thanks also to the caregiving team at Hosparus Health for their compassionate support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hosparus Health in recognition of the excellent care Mary Ann received in her final months.
