Mary Katherine Underwood

Nickname: Bucky

Maiden last name: Buckman

Born: April 21,1940, in Evansville, IN

Deceased: November 09, 2025, at home in Evansville, IN

85 Years of Age

Graduated in 1958 from Mater Dei High School, Wildcats

Mary worked at Escalade Sports formally Indian Industries for over 40 years. She was an expeditor in the kit area of the ping pong table division; she was a hard worker and was also a strong union steward. Her father, Bill would tell her when they went on strike to "Give 'em hell Mary!" Claire and Kenny Moesner were here favorite supervisors!

She was a mother of two daughters: Tami Tenbarge (Bob); Michelle Burczyk (Steve)

Grandmother of five, David, Brandon, Nick, Matthew and Kaycee; Great-Grandmother of eight.

She married Ed Underwood on October 18th, 1958. They were married for 62 wonderful years and widowed by him on August 30, 2021.

She loved to play bingo and cards; she loved jigging and minnow fishing while fishing at Lake Okeechobee in Moore Haven, Florida where her and Ed lived for over 20 years. Lake life was their life and her life. She loved their campers, their extravagant campers, they're many Champion boats and their lake homes at Lake Barkley and Moore Haven where they had many, many friends who all moved there just to be close among friends of a lifetime and have happy hour every day at 3 in the afternoon on their patio or one of their many friends' patio. She always made time for her friends there and here in Evansville. Many friends and family knew they had a place to stay when they visited Mom and Dad as she loved to cook and entertain folks with her love of cooking for them.

Mary always wore a smile and told everyone that 'it'll be okay, don't worry'. She found the Lord at New Life Ministries where she was a member and loved her Pastor Steve Clayton and his wife Jeannie. Her friends Judy Jones, Brenda Hall, Karen Hobgood and many, many others loved her like a sister! She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and loved to go to Karaoke with Ed, their girls, Tami, Michelle, Brenda and all the gang. Billie Simmons came to help her during the last year of her life, and we are so thankful for her as she became one of mom's friends as well.

Mary was a strong woman as she battled kidney disease. She went to dialysis three times a week for the last three years and few months and loved her nurses at Davita Dialysis in North Park! They are the best! The day she decided not to take dialysis anymore; she had Tami take her to say goodbye to all the sweet nurses and people whom she took dialysis with. Our hospice nurse from Heart to Heart, Laura, was freaking amazing as she helped Mom on her journey to heaven!

She loved it when her family came to see her. She lived for her two girls, Tami and Michelle. She will be greatly missed by all; she was our most cherished gift from God.

To our cousins, Jenny, Rita and Sandy, mom loved her Saturdays with you all

She was so loved by all of her Nieces and Nephews.

She and Ed will have their ashes sent into the lake at Sunset Memorial's Lake Sunset with a brick inscribed with their names as a cherished memento for the family and future generations to visit.

We are celebrating Mary's life on November 30th, 2025, at Evansville Athletic Club at 321 W Oregon St in Evansville, Indiana, from 1 – 4 p.m. Please bring a covered dish if you plan to attend.
