Mary Margaret Vincent, 70, of Warren, IL, passed away on the 3rd day of September 2024, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa after a long battle with illness and infection.
Mary was born on March 1, 1954, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of James B. and Mary Jane (Hinderman) Vincent. She graduated from Galena High School in the Class of 1972 and then attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1976 with a degree in education before continuing on to Clarke University where she earned a master's in special education. She lovingly taught school for several years before shifting gears and attending Northern Illinois University to complete her juris doctor in 1983 and join her father's practice in their shared lifelong career in law. There were few people that loved their community quite like Mary, and she loved nothing more than serving it. She gave her time, knowledge, beautiful handwriting, and love of event planning to groups like the Apple River Stagecoach Event Center, CUD #205 Education Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, JDC Sherriff's Merit Commission, JDC Housing Authority, Warren Chamber of Commerce, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and countless others in her storied lifetime. One of her greatest passions, though, was HCC's Servant Leadership program where she served as the Warren High School mentor for 20 years (with perfect attendance!) and now has a scholarship offered in her honor. She loved spending time with her family and her "church family" at the Apple River UMC, playing in the bell choir at the Galena UMC, and learning more about her beloved community through programs with the Warren Women's Club and her Fortnightly "sisters".
She is survived by her adoring daughter Meghan Vincent, of Nevada, MO; three such devoted sisters, Ruth Jackson and Sarah (P. Carter) Newton, of Galena, IL, and Martha (Marissa) Vincent, of Lindenhurst, IL; sister-in-law, Ramona Vincent of Apple Canyon Lake, IL; ten nieces and nephews, Tim (Lindsy) and Mike (Heather) Vincent, Paul (Kendall), Jane (Mike) and Vincent (Emily) Newton, Matthew, Nate (Chelsea), and Luke (Kelli) Jackson, and Kate and Brandon Dinschel; and ten great nieces and nephews and so many special friends, notably Valerie Stocks, Bob Albrecht, and her "son from another mother" Travus Albrecht.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, J. William "Bill" Vincent.
A visitation will be held at the Apple River Event Center, in Apple River, IL, on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Apple River United Methodist Church with Pastor Libby Rutherford officiating.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial has been established in her memory.

Like her smile, she was beautiful inside and out. I've been truly blessed to have known her, we need more people like Mary in this world. Rest in peace my friend. Alice Schiesher

I didn´t know Mary nearly long enough, but I liked her immensely. I admired her tenacity, determination, and perseverance in the face of the health issues she dealt with daily, and she had a delightful spark of humor that always made me smile. We came to know each other through P.E.O., and particularly through our small group of P.E.O. sisters who met via Zoom during the COVID shutdown. Mary made every effort to meet with us in spite of her busy schedule. Meghan, she glowed when she spoke of you. I think you know how deeply she loved you, and how proud she was of the woman you´ve become. I will miss her.

Could Ruth or Sarah please let me know which Habitat for Humanity office Mary´s memorial gift should benefit? Thank you!
