Mary E. Walsh (nee Hughes), age 57, a resident of Naperville, IL since 2010, formerly of Homewood, IL, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025, at her home. She was born on September 29, 1967, in Evergreen Park, IL.
Beloved wife of James F. "Jim" Walsh, whom she married on June 15, 2002, loving mother of Jimmy and Claire Walsh, devoted daughter of James and Diane (nee Tiberi) Hughes, daughter-in-law of Marla and the late James Walsh, dear sister of Anne (Marty) Keane of Glen Ellyn, IL and Michael (Meghean) Hughes of Atlanta, GA, fond sister-in-law, niece, cousin, aunt and friend of many.
Mary grew up in Glenwood, IL, in a loving and nurturing family. She attended Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, IL, and later studied Communication-Journalism at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. After graduating, Mary worked in various media markets and eventually became the morning news anchor at NBC15 in Madison, WI-where she met her future husband on a blind date.
Mary later returned to Chicago and worked as a reporter at WGN until the birth of their son. It was then she embraced her favorite role: motherhood.
Mary had a radiant smile and was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. She loved her family deeply, found joy in gardening and reading, and was truly the heart of her home. She will be forever missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, 4:00-8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL 60540.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 8, 11:00 AM at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville, IL 60540.
Interment will follow at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville.
