Mary Josephine Weaver (née Phillips) of Columbus, Ohio, died on September 7, 2025. She was 86 years old.
Born on July 27, 1939, in Belmont, Ohio, to Mary Gladys (née Davis) and Ralph L. Phillips, Mary Jo dedicated her life to her family, her community, and helping others. She graduated from North High School in 1957 and built a 27-year career at the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University. After retiring in 2004, Mary Jo and her husband Richard (Dick) Weaver often traveled to Arizona and Florida, where they enjoyed the warm weather and new adventures, including skydiving for Mary Jo’s 60th birthday.
Mary Jo will be remembered for always being on the go, whether she was golfing, exercising, sewing, painting, decorating the house, gardening, baking, or shopping. She was a talented cook with a keen eye for fashion and style, frequently visiting the salon to have her hair and nails done. A passionate Ohio State Buckeyes fan, Mary Jo loved going to games and would never miss an opportunity to watch on TV. She was also a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church, where she often volunteered as a greeter or an usher.
Throughout her life, Mary Jo was a devoted daughter, mother, and grandmother who cherished every moment with family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Dick, and will be greatly missed by daughters Kelly (Pat) Leach and Karen (Michael) Tieman; step-sons Scott (Fedra Vazquez) Weaver, Tim (Marsha) Weaver, and Rick Weaver; grandchildren Nicholas (Sarah) Parkey, Madilyn Parkey, Cameron Leach, Jacob (Brittany) Tieman, Andrew Tieman, Cody Tieman, Dean Weaver, and Charlotte Weaver; great-grandchildren Luca and Olivia Parkey; and several cousins.
