Mary Ann Weaver, a wife, sister, beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, aunt and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at the age of 88, following an extended illness. She was born on September 4, 1937, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and spent her final years in DeLand, Florida, where she was surrounded by love and support until her last breath.
Mary Ann was the daughter of Michael and Mary Semanisin, and her legacy lives on through her family. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, David Jay Weaver, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage of 56 years, and her beloved sister, Pauline (Swade) Yonko.
She is survived by her loving brother, Donald Semanisin, and his wife, Luba; her brother-in-law, Joseph Yonko; and her three children: Joy Weaver Gorgans and her husband, Mark; Trudy Fuller and her husband, Hugh; and William Weaver and his wife, Caryn. Mary Ann took great joy in her role as a grandmother, and her legacy includes seven grandchildren: Tabetha Joy (Gorgans) Silwimba and her husband, Kennedy; Christiana Hope (Gorgans) Martin and her husband, James; Matthew Thomas Gorgans and his wife, Shea; Jilian Fuller; Zak Fuller; and Ruslan Weaver. Additionally, she was blessed with six great-grandchildren: Issac Silwimba and his wife, Lottie; Adah Silwimba; Jackson Silwimba; Kennedy (Kenny) Silwimba; and Naomi Bronte Martin. Mary Ann will also be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephew, as well as her great-nieces.
Mary Ann's educational journey led her to graduate from the University of Indiana in Pennsylvania, formerly known as the State Teachers College, and she expanded her knowledge with graduate coursework at Florida State University. Her professional life was marked by her dedication to helping others; she worked alongside her husband in their family business, Mars Paint and Decorating, and later practiced speech pathology at home. Upon moving to Port Charlotte, Florida, she served as a Speech Therapist for the Sarasota Public Schools in Arcadia until her retirement, impacting countless lives along the way.
An active member of numerous Christian & Missionary Alliance church communities, Mary Ann was known for her beautiful voice, singing in church choirs and serving as a soloist. She worked alongside her husband, leading young couples in Sunday School classes and was involved with the Junior League in Mars, PA.
In her later years, Mary Ann lived at The Alliance Community for Retirement Living, where she became an integral part of the community and was a member of the Alliance Chapel on campus. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff, activities directors and nursing teams at ACRL for the exceptional care they provided to Mary Ann.
Mary Ann was a woman of generosity and love, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was deeply loved by her children and grandchildren, and her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Service of Remembrance to celebrate her remarkable life will be held on October 6, 2025, at 10:30 AM at The Alliance Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary Ann's memory to The Alliance Chapel at The Alliance Community for Retirement Living, located at 600 South Florida Ave., DeLand, FL 32720. Following the service, a light luncheon for family and friends will follow at the Lindstrom Center on the Campus of ACRL.
Mary Ann Weaver's life was a testament to love, kindness, and service to others. She will be greatly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.
