It is with great sadness that Mary Ada (Cooper) Webber passed away at Avita in Newburyport with her family by her side at 95 years of age. Mary was born in Newburyport at home to Isabelle and James Cooper. Mary attended Newburyport schools and graduated from Newburyport High School in 1948.
Upon graduation, Mary worked at Towle Silversmiths for a short time and Lincoln’s Department Store in downtown Newburyport while waiting for her future husband, Kenneth Webber, to be discharged from the U.S. Navy to be married. They were married on July 25, 1954.
Mary was a homemaker and a woman of great faith. She was an active participant at St. Paul’s Church for many years while serving on the Altar Guild, Evening Guild, coffee hours and working on church fairs and other activities. Mary’s other interests were entertaining family and friends, sewing as she made a lot of her own clothes in early years and making braided rugs. Mary was part of a sewing circle with friends where she learned how to make beautiful quilts. Mary always had a smile for everyone and made friends easily. She was still close to dear friends she made from being in school and still made new friends in recent years while living at Atria in Newburyport and Avita in Newburyport.
Mary leaves behind her children, Susan (Webber) Maurier and Kenneth Webber and his wife Anne, her dear sister Isabelle Champoux, and her step-grandchildren Heidi McLaughlin, Kayla McLaughlin, Scott Maurier and Jazzel Maurier and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, her brothers Harold Cooper, Robert Cooper, Charles Cooper, and her sister-in-law June Webber.
Donations can be made to St. Paul’s Church and Anna Jaques Hospital.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M.
