After graduation she worked and lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1973 she moved back to Gray, Iowa where she met her husband Gary Weitl.
On March 1, 1975, Mary was united in marriage with her husband, Gary Weitl, at the Sacred Heart Church in Templeton, Iowa. They were blessed with 2 children, Sara and Jesse, raised in their family home in Templeton.
