Douglas Conrad Weitl, the son of Marlo and Almyra (Tiefenthaler) Weitl, was born July 9, 1958, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up on a farm outside of Roselle and attended school at Holy Angels in Roselle until 8th grade and went on to Kuemper Catholic School graduating in 1976. Doug was united in marriage to Laurie Hill on August 8, 1981, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle, Iowa. The couple started out on a farm outside of Roselle later moving to their home in Templeton in 1989 to raise their four children.
In May 1990, Doug started Weitl Carpet & Vinyl Service and proudly operated until early retirement due to declining health in 2022. He took great pride in the work he completed over the years and the relationships made with his customers. It gave him comfort knowing his son Jason was able to continue on the business that he started.
In his spare time, Doug enjoyed golf and building items in his shop. There was nothing he couldn't grill and always loved being outdoors. Family time meant so much to him, especially time spent with his grandchildren. Many hours were spent around the kitchen table playing Euchre with his kids and Chase the Ace with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie of 42 years, four children: Kristina (James) Parker of Norwalk, IA, Nicholas (Kathryn) Weitl of Charlotte, NC, Christopher (Kari) Weitl of Canyon, TX, Jason Weitl of Audubon, IA; Eight Grandchildren: Hayley Parker, Morgan Parker, Karsyn Parker, Charles Weitl, Benjamin Weitl, Jacob Weitl, Addie Weitl, Jaxon Weitl.
Other survivors include his mother, Almyra, two brothers, Clyde (Mickey) Weitl of Templeton, IA, Brian Weitl of Carroll, IA, one sister, Carleen (Thomas) Evans of Overland Park, KS, one uncle, Norbert Weitl of Carroll, IA, three aunts, Sister Myra Weitl of Dubuque, IA, Ruth Ann Weitl of York, NE, Pat Weitl of Templeton, IA, mother-in-law, Sandy Hill of Carroll, IA, plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marlo, sister-in-law: Lisa Gebers; four uncles, Charles Weitl, Richard Weitl, Ervil and wife Helen Tiefenthaler, Paul and wife Mary Tiefenthaler, six aunts, Nola and husband Vernon Kohorst, Arlene and husband Gaylord Stangl, Evelyn and husband Norbert Ludwig, Ethel and husband Leonard Hoffman, Rose Marie and husband John Hoffman, Ruth and Alphons (Bud) Brinks, grandparents Charles and Anna Weitl and Conrad and Mary Tiefenthaler and his father-in-law, Donald Hill.
Our family would like to include a special thanks to the Gentiva Hospice Staff, St. Anthony Nursing Home Staff and the Templeton EMS for the incredible care received during Doug's illness.
