Mary Willett Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 13, 2025.
Mary Elizabeth Willett (Mary Beth), 87, of Towson, MD., passed away on 13-Aug-2025 in Annapolis, MD.

A family-only funeral service will be held graveside with burial following at Loudon Park Cemetery, 3620 Wilkens Ave, Baltimore MD. There will be no visitation. Hardesty Funeral Home will handle the funeral arrangements.

Mary Beth was born in Baltimore, MD. to Harry G. Thompson and Beatrice L. Thompson on 27-Feb-1938. She had one brother, Jack Thompson. She attended Eastern High School and graduated in 1956. She and Louis Willett (Lou) met at the Maryland Yacht Club in 1952, he was a lifeguard, and she was the Commodore's daughter. They were married in 1957 and enjoyed a 70-year relationship until Lou's death in 2022.

Mary Beth will be remembered as the wind beneath many wings.

In 1961, Mary Beth began volunteer work at the Church Mission of Help in Baltimore City. While assisting other families through the child adoption process, she kept an eye out for a blond-haired blue-eyed baby boy for her and Lou to adopt. She found one and brought home six-month-old Keith on March 31, 1963. In the mid to late 1960's, she was a member and subsequently President of the Engineers Society of Baltimore Women's Auxiliary where she excelled at organizing fund-raising events.

Mary Beth was a stay-at-home Mom until 1977 when she began work as a Medical Office Manager at a local doctor's office which grew into 35-year career through two subsequent owners of the practice. She was a talented craftsperson. Mary Beth crafted quilts, knitted blankets, cross-stitch, sewed clothes and Halloween costumes. She was a joyous force in her church community and crafted a variety of items for church donation. She loved garage sales looking for old milk jugs to refinish, paint, and display; and old snow sleds or anything else that inspired her imagination. She was an expert gardener and especially enjoyed the hollies in her Towson home, referring to her yard as Holly Knoll.

Mary Beth is survived by her son Keith D. Willett, daughter-in-law Nicola Daniel, and granddaughter Erika Lee all of Annapolis, MD., and grandson Alex Lee of New York, NY. Lou is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Wayne Willett, father, Harry G. Thompson, mother, Beatrice L. Thompson, brother, Jack Thompson, father-in-law, Howard Clark, mother-in-law, Bertha Clark, and special relation, Lou's grandfather, Henry Cochran.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Church, 1102 Hart Rd, Towson, MD. 21286. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Christ the King Church congregation for extending such wonderful fellowship and comfort over the years.
