Mary Ella Williams Spence was the 11th child born to the late Ben and Georgia Williams in Manor. Mary was baptized at an early age at Parks Spring Baptist Church. As a member she worked in Mission, Choir, Culinary Department and anywhere there was a need. She was a deaconess and the church mother. She was a faithful member until her health declined.
Mary met and married James Lee Williams Sr and to this union five children were born. She later married Edward Spence.
Mary loved her family! She was very active in the planning of the Williams Family Reunion. Preserving her father's legacy was everything! She always encouraged her family members to hold on to each other and continue the tradition that brought the Willams Family and our neighbors of St Johns together annually. Mary was an avid bowler and enjoyed being a member of her bowling league for many years. She was also a member of Iota Phi Lamba Sorority-Pelatis Auxiliary.
Mary started her own janitorial business and ran it for many years. She also worked for Wally and Peggy Pringle and Ann and Roy Butler, the latter a former Mayor of Austin. In this capacity she rubbed elbows with some of Austin's elite. Her personality was so gracious and welcoming that even after her retirement they requested her just to get another taste of her spirit and soulful meals.
Preceded in death: Her son Jesse Williams, grandson William C. Brown and great- grandson Jarrel Loggins. Parents Ben and Georgia Williams. Siblings: Annie Galloway, Bennie Williams, John Williams, Mae Fresch, Alberta Williams, Sam Williams, Maude Miles, Ruby Washington, Georgia Fletcher, Jimmie Williams and Joseph Williams.
She leaves to Cherish her memories: One son James Lee Williams Jr.(Preacher) and Three daughters: Beverly Loggins and Dorcas Elaine Williams(Lanie) all of Austin, TX and MaryAnn Gibson of Houston, TX; One Sister: Lucy Swain of Austin, Texas. 16 Grandchildren, 48 Great Grandchildren, 42 Great Great Grandchildren. Host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
