It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lynne Wilson, age 77, of Boaz, AL, who passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024, after a courageous struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Mary Lynne was a member of the Boaz community for over 50 years where she lived with her husband of 52 years, Dr. David Wilson, until his death in 2019.
A graduate of West End High School in Birmingham, Alabama, Mary Lynne went on to earn a degree from Birmingham-Southern College and a Master’s degree from the University of Alabama. Her passion for learning carried over into her professional life, where she served as a college counselor at Snead State Community College and Northeast Community College, helping countless students achieve their educational goals. Prior to her counseling career, Mary Lynne was a dedicated Spanish teacher at Boaz High School, where she inspired generations of students with her love of language and culture.
Beyond her career, Mary Lynne was a devoted member of her community, where she extended God's love to all, regardless of race, religion, or background. She was a true friend to everyone, offering compassion, understanding, and support to all who crossed her path. Mary Lynne’s life was a powerful example of how to love unconditionally, and she inspired those around her to do the same. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on her community, and her faith was a guiding light to all who knew her.
Mary Lynne’s spirit was one of inclusivity and empathy. She believed that every person deserved to be treated with dignity and respect, and she worked tirelessly to make her community a more loving and accepting place. Her unwavering commitment to others and her ability to extend grace to all will remain an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Although Alzheimer's disease took some of her memories, it could never take away Mary Lynne’s kindness, her deep love for her family, or her spirit of service. Mary Lynne was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Page Wilson-Lyons, and son-in-law, R.G. Wilson-Lyons; her cherished granddaughters, Nina Wilson-Lyons and Mary Julian Wilson-Lyons; and her beloved brother, Robert Gamble. Mary Lynne’s family was her greatest joy; she took immense pride in watching her daughter and granddaughters grow.
A Service of Thanksgiving for Mary Lynne’s Life will be held on December 28, 2024 at St. Paul Methodist Church in Boaz, AL. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the service will begin at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul Methodist Church, Camp Sumatanga, or The Women’s Foundation of Alabama in honor of Mary Lynne’s memory and the causes she cared deeply about.
Mary Lynne Wilson’s legacy of love, faith, and service to others will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the lives she touched
