Mary Ellen Young, 44, of Conyers, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on October 22, 2025. She was born on August 26, 1981, in Riverdale, Georgia, to William Bishop Young and Ellen Young. Mary was the youngest of three, growing up alongside her brothers, Larry Lott and John Young.
Mary grew up in Conyers, Georgia, and graduated from Salem High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a Doctorate in Law, and a Master’s degree in Library Science. A lifelong Georgia resident, she built a life rooted in love, learning, and laughter, but she also had a deep curiosity about the world and a passion for travel that took her to places far beyond home.
Those who knew Mary will remember her as calm, steady, and dependable. She was the rock of her family and friends. She was the kind of person everyone could lean on, always ready with quiet strength, good humor, and a listening ear. To some, she was more than an aunt; she was a best friend, a mother figure, and a constant source of love and guidance.
Mary was also the epitome of organization. Everything had a plan and a place, yet her home was a cozy reflection of her creativity. It was filled with her art, her handmade hats and scarves, and the warmth of her many beloved cats: Elle, Ramo, Simba, and Gizmo. She cherished her friendships, loved tracing her family’s history through genealogy, and could often be found reading or enjoying long, hot baths (frequently using up all the hot water).
Mary’s life was a beautiful balance of intellect, humor, and heart. Her presence brought comfort, and her absence will be deeply felt. Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Ellen Brackett; her father, William Bishop Young; her stepmother, Mindy Young; her brothers, John Young and Larry Lott with his wife, April; her nieces and nephews, Michael, Alyssa, Michael Jr., Savannah, Nikaliah, Dylan, Mackenzie, Hunter, Taylor, Kaylee, and Kennedy; as well as her great-nieces and great-nephews; and countless friends and loved ones whose lives she touched.
Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Mary’s life at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 1st, at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1275 Flat Shoals Road NE, Conyers, GA 30013.
