Sister Marybeth McDermott C.S.J.

Sister Marybeth McDermott, C.S.J., age 93, of LaGrange Park, passed away on October 18, 2025. Beloved member of the Congregation of St. Joseph of LaGrange, celebrating 74 years of Religious Life. Loving daughter of the late James and late Sarah (nee Caulfield) McDermott. Sister Marybeth was preceded in death by her siblings: Mary (Leonard) Ganshirt, James McDermott, William McDermott, Patrick McDermott, and Gerald McDermott. Dear aunt of many, many, many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved.

Sr. Marybeth earned her BS from DePaul University. She was a beloved educator of 40+ years in many schools staffed by The Sisters of St. Joseph. For 15 years she was the program director of School on Wheels Literacy Bus, where she was a teacher and trainer of teachers for ESL, GED, and citizenship training. Sr. Marybeth was a fierce immigration advocate.

Visitation 8:30am until Funeral Liturgy at 10am Monday, October 27, 2025, at Alexine Chapel of The Congregation of St. Joseph, 1515 W. Ogden Ave., LaGrange Park, IL, 60526. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Congregation of St. Joseph.
