Mason was born on June 12, 1974, in Mountain Home, Idaho. He died on June 16, 2025, in Layton, Utah. He was 51 years young.
His life began as the first child of Thom and Kathy Rich, growing up in Sandy, Utah. He was a brilliant child and full of energy. At age 2 he surprised a lot of people with the names of all the shapes, like circle, square, triangle, parallelogram, octagon, etc. He knew many things and learned quickly.
School was a challenge for a boy who knew most of what was being taught. He began to struggle with attention deficit disorder but managed to stick with it to graduate from Davis High School in 1992.
In his younger years, his Uncle Rick gave him the nickname, Moose, and it stuck with him for the rest of his life.
He played the trumpet and enjoyed music of various genres. Van Halen was his most favorite, but he also liked a broad variety of Rock and Roll.
Mason served an honorable mission for the LDS Church in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1993-95.
Over the years, he became a Star Wars fanatic and had hundreds of figurines, toys and lightsabers and was loved and admired by many in the Star Wars community.
He was funny and loving but also quite headstrong. Many loved his humorous posts on Facebook. In the latter part of his life, he was much more appreciative of his family and expressed his love for them, often. He will be missed, immeasurably.
He is survived by his Father, Thomas L. and mother, Kathy and younger brother Jarom M. (Jay).
Funeral services will be held at the Pinehurst Ward Chapel on June 28th at 11:00 AM. Family will be available 1 hour before the service. The address is 2120 W Gentile Street, Layton, Utah.
His service will be available on Zoom.
