Matthew J. Ayres, 36, of Landisburg, passed away tragically on Sunday May 19, 2024.
Born December 4, 1987, in Carlisle, he was the son of John D. and Kim L. (Motter) Ayres of New Bloomfield. On April 9, 2017, Matt was united in marriage with Amanda R. (Latsha) Ayres.
A 2006 graduate of West Perry High School, he served twelve years in the United States Navy. Matt was stationed in Japan for four years of his Navy career and had been assigned to the USS Chancellorsville and the USS McCampbell. He was also part of the Navy Seabees. Since his honorable discharge from active duty, he has continued serving in the United States Naval Reserve.
In 2014, Matt earned an Associate degree in the Culinary Arts from the Keystone Technical Institute. He later attained his CDL and became the third generation of his family to work as a Truck Driver. Matt was currently employed by Pitt-Ohio Trucking and had previously worked for New England Motor Freight.
An avid sportsman, he appreciated the freedom of outdoor activities as well as the challenge of the indoor range at Baker's Archery in Halifax. Matt was passionate about food and enjoyed experiencing different restaurants. He also enjoyed traveling, music and more recently began to focus on his own fitness at the Perry Strength & Fitness Center in Shermans Dale. He cared deeply for his wife and their animals Noah, Nala, and Tigger. Matt was devoted to his friends and family, and was a wonderful uncle to his nieces, Everleigh and Laila – he never missed out on a game of hide and go seek.
In addition to his wife and parents, Matt is survived by his maternal grandmother, Martha Motter and sister-in-law, Jessica Plasic of Dauphin. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold and Betty Ayers; maternal grandfather, Paul Dean Motter and cousin, Tommy Singer.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for his viewing from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. on Friday May 24, 2024 at Cornerstone Christian Church, 595 New Bloomfield Road, Duncannon, followed by a Celebration of His Life at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Dave Sherwood, officiating.
In lieu of traditional funeral flowers, the family would appreciate plants or fresh seasonal arrangements that can be shared with those in attendance.
