Matthew James Dickinson, age 15, of Palmyra, NJ departed this life suddenly on August 8, 2024.
Matthew is survived by his loving family including his mother, Tippy Woodard, and father, Jim Dickinson; his brothers, Colin and Cameron Woodard, Benjamin and Alex Dickinson; his grandparents, Carol and Wayne Dickinson; his aunt, Kelly Veneziale and her husband Nick; his uncle, Christopher Dickinson and his wife Teresa; his cousins, Nicholas Veneziale, Katelyn Veneziale, Christopher Dickinson and Michael Dickinson. He is also survived by his many extended family, wonderful friends, teammates, and classmates.
Matthew was a lifelong resident of Palmyra, NJ and was entering his sophomore year at Palmyra High School. Matthew was a fierce competitor who excelled at sports, especially soccer, baseball and wrestling, always wearing his favorite number "5". He began playing sports with the Pal-Riv Soccer Club. His father, Jim, was proudly by his side as his coach throughout his Pal-Riv Phoenix Team and Matthew's entire soccer career. With his transition to high school, Matthew had a standout year in his sports, especially with wrestling, which he had just started competing in, and in baseball making the Varsity Teams for both as a freshman. Matthew always stood out on any field or mat because when he was competing, he always played "bigger than himself" with an extra level of intensity and a non-quitting spirit!
Matthew was known to be quiet, even stoic, but with a great sense of humor, he was always funny and a jokester. Simple answers were never enough for him, and his inquisitive mind led him to want to know and understand the world around him. Matthew was also very determined and fought back from an autoimmune disorder that hospitalized him and affected all his motor skills a few years ago, forcing him to learn to eat and walk again; not only did he recover faster than expected, but he resumed playing sports better than ever. Matthew never backed away from any challenge, he rose to every occasion with an envious level of confidence.
Of course he loved hanging out with his friends, The Boys, and loved the Phillies, Eagles, and Man City. He loved watching all the sporting events on TV, playing video games and he enjoyed his music. Family was everything to Matthew. He centered his world around hanging with his cousins, aunts and uncles also loved being with his family, especially his brothers and cousins, the family trips to Long Beach Island and camping. He likes crabbing at the shore and was an excellent fisherman using his Hawaiian style fishing net off the pier. He will be so deeply missed.
A memorial visitation for Matthew will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 9:15 to 11:15 AM, all at Sacred Heart Church, 4th St. & Linden Ave.,
