He volunteered in Battle Creek with Home Run Dog Park, BC Pride, Calhoun County Equality and Misfits Car Club, also was in a active leadership roles in in Detroit with BWMT Deroit and Midland Region.

I actually thought of you and kerry today, as soon as I awoke. Went to check my email and an email from legacy popped up saying it had been a year since you passed. What a coincidence. Anyway, your laughter, kindness, leadership, and friendship are very much missed. I hope where ever you are, that you are happy and content with the legacy you left here on Earth.

I just found out that Matthew Downing had pass away tonight. I am so sorry to hear this. I met Matthew in Michigan State University in 1974. We became roommates at MSU in September of 1976. Then I have known the family since May of 1977. We have been roommate also in Lansing and Detroit, MI. I remember when he work at Meijer's Thrifty Acres where he became a store manager. Then he work at Montgomery Wards before working at TJmaxx and the Sam's Club where he retired from. I going to miss him dearly.

I have worked with Matt for at least 15 years or more at Sam's Club. He always had a bright smile to greet every associate. I remember he did 10$ gift certificates with a small box of candy every year for his overnight crew for Christmas. After, he left Sam's Club, I carried on the tradition. He always cared about everyone. I remember also one year he and Kerry invited me to see a movie on new years day. He never knew how much I needed that, that day. When my father died, he showed up to his funeral to support me. 8 people attended. His hugs were the best. I'll miss you Matt. Thank you for being a great friend.

Though we both grew up in Flint, Michigan, I didn't meet him until we were students at MSU through mutual friends. We often "hung out " and attended the same social functions. He was a "cool guy" and it was always nice to be around fellow a Flintstone. Shebee

Matt was a great manager to work with and a great friend as well. His love for cars was are common bond. He called his cars his babies and I´m so glad I was able to help him find two of them. You will truly be missed buddy!!
