Matthew Brian Ferry, age 35 of Scottsboro, Alabama, was born February 13, 1989 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He passed away on September 10, 2024 in Scottsboro. Matt is survived by his beloved and best friend, Mary Esther; parents, Anita (Traylor) and Michael Ferry of Scottsboro, along with aunts and uncles: Michael and Tina (Traylor) Smith, Edward and Michelle Traylor, Don and Debby (Taylor) Jennings, June Ferry, Michael and Suzanne (Ferry) Smith. Cousins: Blake Smith, Alan Smith, Joey Jennings, Kasey (Jennings) Sivley, Jase Traylor, Jessalyn (Traylor) Trujillo.
Matt attended Scottsboro City Schools, graduating in 2007 from Scottsboro High School where he was a member of the Golf Team. After high school, he attended the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, double majoring in Political Science and Philosophy, graduating in 2011. After college, he joined the inaugural class of the newly formed Belmont University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee. Matt was awarded his Juris Doctorate in Law in 2013 with Belmont's first graduating class.
Matt was a proud member of the Jackson County, Alabama Bar Association and practiced Law with the Porter Law Firm in Scottsboro. He was also a member of Riverside Community Church.
Funeral Service will be Friday at 11:00am at Scottsboro Funeral Home with Dr. Steven Barber officiating. The visitation will be from 10:00am till 11:00am at the funeral home. The burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Jackson County Drug Court Indigent Fund in Honor of Matthew Ferry, 102 East Laurel St., Suite 302 Scottsboro, Al. 35768, as Matt was deeply dedicated to helping those in need through this wonderful program.
