Matthew James Grondel, age 52, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from injuries received in an auto accident in Live Oak County. He was born on September 9, 1971 to Rodney Joe and Karen Lynne (Francom) Grondel in Ogden, Utah. Matthew proudly served our country in the US Army and continued a duty to protect by his loyal 17 years of service with the Federal Bureau of Prisons at Federal Correctional Institution at Three Rivers. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Antonio. He is preceded in death by his father Rodney Grondel in 2022.
Survivors include his wife Mabeth Grondel and his son Maximus Palacios. Mother Karen Francom Grondel and his siblings Daniel Christian Grondel, Heather Parrish, Holly Oldbury, Benjamin Grondel, Jonathan Grondel, Michael-Paul Grondel and his beloved brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews that love him and will miss him dearly.
Services will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 3 PM at The Church of Latter Day Saints at 25479 Bulverde Road in San Antonio Texas.
Services entrusted to Roberson Funeral Home Three Rivers.

I was incarcerated in Three Rivers from 2010-2013 and out of all the CO's , Grondel was among the most liked. He never made anyone's time hard and he would always be in a good mood. I can't ever remember seeing him upset once. On numerous occassions when I should have been written a shot, he would let me off. I sure hate to hear this and my condolences to his family. Rest Easy Grondel.

I met Matthew a long time ago when we were both DoD contractors. He took me under his wing and made me a better analyst. Matthew was a kind, loving soul and I was blessed to have his friendship. RIP Matthew and God bless you and your family.

I worked with Mattew for a total of 5yrs at FCI Three Rivers! My wife Nazak worked with Matthew for 7yrs also at FCI Three Rivers! It saddens us both deeply to hear of his passing! May you rest in peace

I worked with Matthew for several years at FCI Three Rivers. We did numerous overtime trips and hospital duty. He was a very good man and dedicated friend you could count on in a time of need. God Bless him and his Family!

Unfortunately I never met Matthew but know his wife Mabeth. To have been married to such a loving and caring wife speaks to how special Matthew must have been. My condolences to all the family!
